Comments: | Introduced by Tang for cross-breeding with O. mossambicus to produce more cold-resistant hybrids. Not popular among farmers due to its small size, slow growth and aggressive behavior towards other fish. The Taiwanese government monitor as well as regulate the dissemination of the tilapias, and there are no reported adverse effects of their introduction at present (Ref. 6300).
